Mr. Blake saw that this practice created serious overcharges to customers and decided to buck the traditional system and sell jewelry the way he bought it. If he bought items like chain, by the weight, he sold those items by the weight. If he bought items by the piece, he sold those items by the piece. This meant big savings for the retail store owner. Eventually, the rest of the industry caught on.
